The Power of Words
Since the creation of language, people have known and understood the power of words and their creative ability. Words have within them the capacity to inspire, influence, and impact people – as well as change a situation or atmosphere. On the other hand, like a wrecking ball or tornado, words can destroy relationships, damage a human spirit, or establish a negative environment. Each and every word we hear, speak, or see is filled with the potential to produce the thoughts and intentions of the person who spoke or wrote them.
This creative power that is found within words is stated clearly within the pages of the Bible. In Proverbs 18:21, the Bible states that words have “the power of life and death within them.” This means we can literally help or hurt ourselves and others with our words. Unfortunately, throughout the years this spiritual law has been forgotten, untapped, or carelessly used – especially within the family unit. However, by understanding and practicing this spiritual law correctly, we realize it is vitally important that we speak scripturally based, faith-filled words that will generate positive, healthy results in our lives and in our families.
